June was another busy month on the road. While in SF we squeezed in a trip 35 minutes north of the Golden Gate bridge to Petaluma, the home of Leo Laporte’s new-media empire. Leo is a technology broadcaster, author and entrepreneur.
After working on MSNBC’s The Site (Emmy award winner) and creating the Screen Savers for TechTV (1998-2004), he currently hosts a national radio show Leo Laporte:The Tech Guy on 100 stations for Premiere Radio Network. Leo started the “This Week in Tech Netcast Network” from the TWIT cottage in Petaluma, CA.

Brian Brushwood is incredible.
Watch his amazing demo reel.
His magic rocks and he’s a just a great human being to know. Jim’s rule #4: The most talented people are always the nicest. He’s a fairly regular guest host on TWIT.
Leo and I worked together at TechTV, a technology Cable Network in San Francisco in the early 2000′s. I was the promo voice of TechTV, working from my home in New York the entire time. Whenever I would actually fly out to the studios, he would be in NY doing Regis and Kelly or ABC. So this was the first time we actually met.
If you’ve never seen what Leo does, watch him live on twitlive.tv. His many excellent tech podcasts are here at twit.tv. The show I was on is here, both audio and video versions.
Dawn and I stopped off at the Petaluma, CA Whole Foods store bakery and arrived at the TWIT Cottage with a killer Carrot Cake, which we all dove into. Thank you Leo for being such a gracious host. You deserve all the good things happening to you. Nice to finally meet in person.

Leo is amazing, driven by a genuine interest in the business and a true understanding of how to bring it across. The sign wasn’t up there when I dropped by in February 2010 and shot my little video.
Jonathan, please post the link. Your interview was excellent.

Wow, what a story Jim…you guys finally meeting in person after working ‘virtually’ together all these years!! Great blog post!
Great story and pics Jim ! My son Kenny and I visited the Twit cottage a week earlier but I made the mistake of going the day after the iPhone4 announcement !! The place was extremely busy and I (understandably) didn’t get to sit on Leo’s excercise ball and get my Leo photo op !! Oh well maybe next time. It was very cool to be in the studio while Leo and Amber interviewed Tony Hsieh of Zappos fame.
Yes, if you are visiting check out the Twit wiki and tell them you plan to drop by. There is not much space, but I have found them extremely accommodating. Gave me the tour of the empire – the works. Very impressed by what they have achieved in a relatively short space of time.
