Shooting/Visiting Cowboys Stadium

1.4 Billion and counting and every bit amazing. Our pal Mary Bess Dalton showed us around the new Cowboys Stadium. I shot the first one here at the end when we were walking out into the Texas twilight. It was just a perfect evening. The sheer physics of the structure is something you have to hear about at the same time you’re experiencing it, so I won’t tell you about it here. I would ruin it for you. Nor would I begin to do it justice. When you hear the numbers on this new engineering marvel it’s just jaw-dropping.

The scoreboard weighs one million pounds. I thought a lot about that standing under it on the field. When mounted the roof sunk by several inches. This was planned for in construction. This is the famous scoreboard that punters are known to hit. I heard tell of the Titan’s kicker shagging shot after shot into the scoreboard during practice. The crew had to tell him to knock that off.

Lockers:

Right on the 20 yard line. For me this was the coolest part.

The visiting team MUST pass under this giant heavy metal white star just before entering the field. That’s very funny.

I did not jump into the end zone and celebrate, although I wanted to.

Dawn and our most excellent friend Mary Bess. She’s as big of a Baylor fan and a Cowboys fan. A real Texas girl.

I’ve been to a million stadiums but there isn’t another like this. Even the public tour is highly recommended. The Cowboys organization does the whole fan experience very well. We’ll be back for a game.

  1. Oh Jim and Dawn,

These shots are fabulous! Jim, you are so clever with your photography skills!

It was such a treat to show you guys around the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington and then for our brief Fort Worth Stockyards and Cultural District tour….and of course, later enjoying a wonderful dinner in Sundance Square at Daddy Jack’s. You both have to come to Texas again real soon, ya hear?!!

    xx Mary Bess
